LOS ANGELES — Kawhi Leonard, parroting Kevin Durant, said he gave the Knicks no consideration during free agency. But his response made it seem like Toronto wasn’t a consideration, either.
After his Clippers allowed 140 points in a loss to Memphis on Saturday, Leonard was asked if considered signing with the Knicks.
“I never said I was considering going to the Knicks,’’ Leonard said. “Everybody knew where I wanted to go and that was requested in the trade, so I don’t know where that came from.’’
With Leonard playing the first leg of the back-to-back Saturday, he is not expected to go Sunday against the Knicks, who never met with Leonard during free agency.
The Post reported the Knicks could have met with Leonard several days into free agency but opted not to, knowing their extreme long-shot status. The Knicks didn’t want to put off any surefire signings.
Knicks president Steve Mills said on media day the Knicks had a chance to meet with a handful of max free-agent types but declined. Despite reports to the contrary, Durant has said the Knicks were not on his radar.
