SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WTVC) - A homeowner on Signal Mountain is saying 'never again' after a wild weekend.
Signal Mountain Police were called to the South Street home on Friday night after a report of a fight, and when they arrived, they said they found 29 people in the home.
After some investigating, police say they found one person was affiliated with a gang, and another had an active warrant for robbery in Georgia. Police arrested that person with a warrant at the scene.
Police also found eight handguns, and a small amount of drugs. One of the vehicles in the driveway had been stolen and was towed to a wrecker yard for processing.
One neighbor told our crew he was getting ready to go to bed when he saw several police cars swarm the street.
We spoke with the home's owner, Bryson Curley. He told us he will never rent out his home using the Airbnb service again,
“The person(s) who inquired about my home last weekend presented with a falsely verified profile, and I fell victim to their dishonesty and malicious intent. I could have never anticipated what was to come, or unfortunate circumstances that were to follow. I would never knowingly put my community in harm's way, and I am so grateful for the hard work of the Signal Mountain Police Department for how they handled the situation. I will no longer host short term rentals in my home. I look forward to moving on, and putting this behind me and my family."
According to an ordinance passed in Signal Mountain in June 2019, no more than eight guests can use the short-term rental at any given time. That doesn't include the rental proprieter or any other permanent residents on the property.
You can read the full ordinance below:
An AirBnb spokesperson said in a statement regarding backround checks,
"While no background check system is infallible, we screen all hosts and guests globally against regulatory, terrorist, and sanctions watch lists. For United States residents, we also run background checks looking for prior felony convictions, sex offender registrations, and significant misdemeanors. We are working with additional governments around the world to identify where we can do more background checks."
Mayor Dan Landrum tells us he feels the current ordinance is solid and doesn't think any changes will have to be made.
The next time it could be discussed will be at city council on Monday night.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
